Year 6. Unit 1. Nutrition: The cardiovascular system


nHeart
nRight and left atria, where blood enters
nRight and left ventricles, where blood leaves
nBlood vessels
nArteries carry blood from the heart
nVeins carry blood to the heart
nCapillaires have very thin walls
nPlasma
nBlood transports nutrients and waste.
nRed blood cells carry oxygen,
nWhite blood cells protect from germs and disease.
nPlatelets stop bleeding from wounds.




  • Check your pulse rate in one minute: Is it high? Is it low
  • A normal resting heart rate for adults ranges from 60 to 100 beats a minute.


  1. Watch the videos. Compare your pulse with the information in the video.
  2. Complete exercise 1 (page 6) 1 (page 7) from your Activity Book using the information from the presentation in class or here in the blog.
