Year 4. Unit 4. Plants and animals: Plants make their own food.

Is it a carnivore? Is it a herbivore? Is it an onmivore?
Is it viviparous? is it oviparous?
  • What do the roots absorb? Water and minerals.
  • Where does the raw sap travel? It travels up the stem to the leaves.
  • What do the leaves absorb? Sunlight and carbon dioxide.
  • Where does the elaborated sap go? From the leaves to the rest of the plant.

  • What is used to produce ultrasound scans? Sound.
  • What type of information do ultrasounds provide? Images with many details.
  • Can you identify some of the baby's body parts in the ultrasound images? (Personal answer: I can see the eyes, the mouth, the nose, the arms, the legs…)
  • Do you have any pictures of the ultrasound scans when you were a baby? (Personal answer).
  • What can you see on the screen? A baby inside the mother's womb.
  • Why is the woman smiling? Because she is going to have a baby and she can see it!

  • Which endocrine glands regulate growth?
    • The pituitarygland and the thyroid gland.
  • Which endocrine gland is also a digestive organ?
    • The pancreas.
  • Which glands are different in men and women? 
    • The ovaries and the testicles (the reproductive glands).

2. Complete your Activity Book (page 14).
3. Choose one of these exercises (see picture for more details).
  • Copy and complete the table and search the Internet to find about the main hormones.
  • Draw a comic strip with three vignettes.
