Year 4. Unit 2. Food and nutrition: A healthy, balanced diet

Our body needs food to help us grow, keep us healthy and give us energy
It is important to eat a healthy, balanced diet.
A healthy diet includes nutrients from all the food groups.
We also need to drink six to eight glasses of water a day!
We need to eat the correct amount of food so that we get enough energy to complete our daily activities
  • If we eat too much food, our bodies accumulate the extra food as fat and we put on weight
  • If we don’t eat enough food, we lose weight and we get thinner.
  • Being overweight or underweight can cause serious problems to our health.
Diets vary depending on how old a person is, and the amount of exercise they do.
  • When we are young, we need to eat enough food to be able to grow properly.
  • If we do a lot of exercise, we need to eat more foods that give us energy.
